"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:35-36,40

Missions

LoveNOW Global

We believe relationship in Christian community is important, and we are thrilled to support several missionaries who have close ties to Oak Haven Church. Whether they grew up at Oak Haven, have family here, or are good friends, we love them deeply and it is an honor to support them.

Second Saturday FAQs

  • What are “Second Saturdays”?

Second Saturdays are our flagship LoveNOW outreach events. Every second Saturday of every month, our congregation meets at the church at 9am for a devotional and prayer and then breaks up into teams to serve on various projects in our community. There are different projects every month for every age and physical ability, but we always start at the church at 9am and end no later than 12 noon (but often sooner). Sign up is required, but only so that we can make sure our outreach partners are supported with enough volunteers.

  • Are Second Saturdays going to be our only outreach events from now on?

No, however Second Saturdays will be our regular rhythm of consistent, active service as an entire church body. But we still will be doing quarterly community drives (clothing, school supplies, etc.), and very occasional special projects or events that support our outreach partners outside of Second Saturdays. We also fully support, encourage, and applaud our congregation to engage with outreach as individuals outside of formally organized Oak Haven projects.

  • Can I bring my family?

Yes, and please do! We think it's powerful discipleship for whole families to serve together and most second Saturday projects are designed for participation from all ages. Just include them on the sign-up so we can give our partner organization accurate numbers. Occasionally, there will be an organization that requests or necessitates that volunteers be over 18, but in those cases that information will always be included in the project description.

  • Can I bring my friends who don’t go to Oak Haven?

Yes! Second Saturdays are the perfect event to invite friends to, and it's a great way to make new friends too!

  • Can I drive straight to the partner organization instead of starting at the church first?

No, it's important for everyone to meet at the church at 9am to check in, receive necessary instructions, find your project team lead, and be prayed over before being split up into different groups to serve. Second Saturdays are for volunteering in our community, yes, but even more importantly they're a powerful opportunity for our church to grow in relationship with each other and to respond to God's call on our life of service together. So, we always start our Saturdays together.

  • Can I participate even if I have physical limitations?

Yes! We believe that all Christians are called to servanthood and the heart of LoveNOW is for our whole congregation to bond together in service. So there will always be at least one project option each month that does not require a lot of physical capability.

  • Can I suggest a partner organization or project?

Of course! While we can't promise we'll be able to do every opportunity that comes our way, we are interested in your suggestions. Just email our outreach Pastor Elise elise@oakhavenchurch.org.

  • Do I leave when the project is done or do I need to meet up somewhere else?

We schedule to have our projects conclude by 12:00 but often times they finish sooner. Just check in with your project leader when you're finished and you're good to leave!

  • Do I need to bring any equipment or supplies?

Nope, just yourself! All equipment will be provided. Just be sure to wear close-toed shoes and clothing you don't mind getting dirty.

  • How do I get to the worksites?

After our opening prayer time and instructions at the church, you will receive the address and map of the project location and we will caravan in our own vehicles to the work sites. Occasionally there may be a very large project that we will take the church van or bus to, but in those cases we'll be sure to make that clear in the project description.
